SUMMARY: The administrative position of Dean of the Keeran School of Education reports to the Dean of the University. The position has primary administrative responsibility for the operational aspects of the School of Education.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

1.Education: An earned doctorate in education.

2. Experience: The Dean of the Keeran School of Education must have experience with the accreditation process (NCATE experience preferred), preferably in a leadership capacity. The Dean must also be a competent manager with the ability to lead faculty in continual improvement activities and critical data analyses. The Dean must have experience as a licensed teacher (or counselor, principal, etc.) in a public or private school setting. Other qualifications include skill in curriculum development; evaluation experience; teaching experience and demonstrated scholarship requisite for professional rank; and interpersonal skills which foster a climate conducive to productivity and professional development of faculty.

3. Church Affiliation: The Keeran School of Education Dean shall be an active member of a congregation within the fellowship of Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.

4. Values: The Keeran School of Education Dean must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University's core values. The Keeran School of Education Dean must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others by her/his own work ethic. The Keeran School of Education Dean must accept ownership of her/his area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the Keeran School of Education.

CLASSIFICATION: The Keeran School of Education Dean works under a 10-month, full-time, salary-exempt contract.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Keeran School of Education Dean reports administratively to the Dean of the University and works closely with all administrative divisions, operational units, and academic departments. The Dean receives adequate release time from teaching assignments to adequately attend to administrative duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Keeran School of Education Dean has the following responsibilities and authorities:

1. Provide leadership to the Keeran School of Education.
2. Coordinate the operations of the Keeran School of Education.

3. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the administration of the University, other divisions and departments within the University, related facilities, and community.

4. Participate in the preparation and administration of the Keeran School of Education budget.

5. Screen and recommend candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion.

6. Develop and oversee admission, retention, and progression criteria.

7. Develop and implement program policies.

8. Facilitate continuing academic and professional development for the faculty.

9. Oversee all aspects of the Teacher Education program, including off-campus activities (i.e., student teaching, teacher observations, etc.).


10. Serve as the administrative liaison with the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.

11. Provide a system of records and reports essential to the operation of the Keeran School of Education as specified by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.

12. Insure the faculty shall be adequate in number and composition to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the Keeran School of Education and its curriculum in relation to the stated purpose, philosophy, objectives, and number of students and classes admitted annually.

13. Mentor Keeran School of Education faculty to enhance their teaching role.


14. Represent the Keeran School of Education on the Academic Council and other committees.

15. Represent the University as a spokesperson to the various publics to which it addresses itself, and provide such information as may be necessary to assure clear understanding of the state of the Keeran School of Education, its needs, and its mission.


16. Insure that all faculty and staff positions within the Keeran School of Education are filled with qualified individuals for both present and future needs.

17. Promote coordination of the strategic planning efforts as the efforts relate to the Keeran School of Education.

18. Insure that the Keeran School of Education complies with all Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools regulations and standards of accreditation.


19. Represent the Keeran School of Education and provide leadership within the larger academic community and professional associations.

20. Participate in institutional advancement activities as requested by the VP of Advancement related to annual fund raising.

21. Supervise, develop, and review the performance of those positions that report to the Keeran School of Education Dean.

22. Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the Kentucky Christian University Faculty Handbook.

23. Additional duties that may be required or assigned.
